Greece: Sale of 3-year-old child prevented

According to information ΠΟΕΔΗΝthe Greek coast guard prevented the sale of a 3.5-year-old child in Piraeus.

According to Michalis Yiannakos, president of POEDEN, in accordance with the prosecutor's order, the baby was transferred to Attikon Hospital on the morning of Wednesday, June 26.

The child was found in the port of Piraeus with his grandmother, tells CNN Greece. Mr. Giannakos notes that, according to available information, the baby was going to be sold. The message says:

“Yesterday morning, the coast guard, by order of the prosecutor, transferred an unidentified boy of 3.5 years old to the Attica hospital. He was found in the port of Piraeus with his grandmother and was intended for sale. The coast guard acted very correctly in protecting the child and sending him to pediatric clinic of Attica Hospital with a prosecutor's order.

But if nothing is done, this child will remain in Attica for months. Who will guard him? If he is stolen, who will be held accountable? The pediatric clinic of Attica Hospital currently treats 20 children, many of whom have very serious health problems or have undergone major operations. There are only two nurses on each shift. What should they do first?

The President of ΠΟΕΔΗΝ noted that children who have a prosecutor’s order “should be placed in social security institutions, not in hospitals. Only there can adoption, education and social reintegration programs be implemented.”
