Greek Civil Protection: Emergency Fire Danger Level as of June 21

The Greek Ministry of Civil Defense and Climate Crisis has issued an extreme fire warning for tomorrow, Friday, June 21, 2024.

According to the fire danger forecast map, in the Attica region there is extreme fire danger (category 5), and in a number of other regions – very high danger (category 4).

Extreme Fire Hazard is an alarm condition for the following areas:

• Attica region (except Kythira island)

Very high fire risk for the following areas:

• Attica region (Kythira island)
• Peloponnese region
• Region of Western Greece (Ilia, Achaia)
• Region of Central Greece (Phokis, Viotia, Phthiotis, Evia, including the island of Skyros)
• North Aegean region (Lesbos, Chios)

A northerly wind of force 6-7 and in some places of force 8 on the Beaufort scale is forecast, which increases the risk of fires in dry vegetation.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis Management and Civil Protection has informed the competent public authorities as well as the regions and municipalities of the above regions to be on high alert for civil protection to immediately respond to any fire incidents .

The General Secretariat of Civil Defense recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid outdoor activities that could inadvertently cause a fire: burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding machines, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. We also remind you that during the fire season it is prohibited to burn fields.
