Meeting between Kim Jong-un and B. Putin: “Relations between Russia and North Korea are entering a new era of prosperity”


Kim Jong-un, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang, said that relations between Russia and North Korea are entering into “a new era of prosperity.”

“Relations between our countries are entering a new era of new and great prosperity, which cannot be compared even with the period of Soviet-Korean relations of the last century.”, the North Korean leader said, according to a Russian translation of his speech carried by Russian news agencies. In turn, Vladimir Putin said that “a new fundamental document is ready” which will determine relations between Moscow and Pyongyang.

“Today a new fundamental document is ready, which will lay the foundations for our long-term relations”Putin said, as reported by Russian agencies, and assured that Moscow and Pyongyang “we've made a little progress” in strengthening bilateral relations. The Russian president also invited Kim to visit Moscow, Russian agencies reported.

“I'm glad to meet you again”said Putin, who has already hosted Kim twice in the Far East – in April 2019 and September 2023. “I hope that our next meeting will take place in Russia, in Moscow,” – he added. The Russian President also told the North Korean leader that he “appreciates North Korea's support” regarding Russian politics.

The first footage of the historic meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang has emerged.


“We really appreciate your systematic and constant support for Russian policy, including on the Ukrainian issue”“, Vladimir Putin said at the beginning of the meeting with Kim after the official ceremony in the central square of Pyongyang. He highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries, “which is based on the principles of equality and mutual respect of interests.”

“Russia and North Korea have been linked by stable friendship and close proximity for decades,” – the Russian president recalled.

Negotiations between Putin and Kim Jong-un began in Pyongyang at the Kumsusan residence. In the center of the North Korean capital, Putin was greeted by a huge portrait of him, a military parade and people with flowers and flags. Kim Jong-un, in turn, expressed support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine and noted Moscow's role “in maintaining strategic stability and balance throughout the world.”


Thousands of residents of the North Korean capital, including many children with flowers and balloons, greeted Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un to the sounds of a military band.
