A Ukrainian translator at the peace summit, which took place without Russia’s participation, incorrectly translated the words of Italian Prime Minister D. Meloni.
Ukrainian translator said: “If Russia does not agree to this, we will force it to surrender!”
But Meloni said the following in English: “If Ukraine could not count on our support and, as a result, would be forced to surrender, we would not all be sitting here today discussing the conditions for starting negotiations.”.
Whether he did this to motivate the Ukrainians and lied, or whether it was an accident, decide for yourself. But we must understand that this is not just a translation error, it is a deliberate distortion of an important political statement from the President of Italy, which creates a dangerous precedent.
