Pimps rented houses and turned them into brothels

Greek police have begun to dismantle a criminal gang whose members were inducing women into prostitution in brothels in the Metaxourgio area in order to obtain illegal financial gain.

To put an end to their activities, a police operation was carried out on the afternoon of Thursday, June 13, during which 7 people were arrested. A criminal case has been initiated against them depending on the circumstances: creation of a criminal organization and pimping. Two more members of the criminal group, whose details have been identified, are accused of the same crimes.

According to ΕΛ.ΑΣ, a preliminary assessment and verification of the information received by them was carried out. After applying special investigative methods, as a result of a cumulative analysis, the actions of the criminal group and the involvement of the accused in the case were established.

As it turned out during the police investigation, the accused created a criminal group with certain functions and engaged in sexual exploitation of women, who were distributed to brothels in the Metaxourgio area, receiving a portion of the proceeds. To achieve their goals, they rented various buildings and apartments in which brothels were located and operated.

The premises in which the brothels operated were rented by a member of the criminal group, while other members were responsible for guarding/protecting the buildings and monitoring the extradited women.

As part of the police operation, simultaneous inspections were carried out at 7 brothels, a mini-market, a car rental company, and a residential building. During the searches, the following were discovered and seized:

  • 2 recording devices and surveillance cameras for brothel premises,
  • 4 mobile phones,
  • notebooks with entries that mention the data of women, brothel staff, the number of sexual encounters per shift, as well as the distribution of income from prostitution among brothel staff,
  • amount 425 euros in cash.

Exploited women received assistance and protection from the Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Sub-Directorate, with the assistance of NGOs specializing in human trafficking.

Those detained with a case filed against them were taken to the appropriate prosecutor's office, and administrative deportation proceedings were initiated against two foreigners brought from places under investigation.
