UN: 185 thousand illegal immigrants have entered Greece since 2019

Greece has become one of the most vulnerable countries in Europe in terms of illegal immigrants crossing the country's borders, both by sea and land.

Since July 2019, at least 185,406 illegal migrants have entered the country, and in 2024 alone, up to June 9, 18,439 people entered illegally, and this number is constantly growing.

UNHCR's own website states that since 2014, when the count of arrivals began, 1,354,406,000 people have entered the country by land and sea. In particular, this year 2,323 people arrived in Evros, and 1,831 people arrived in Crete (ed. note: Gavdos administratively belongs to the prefecture of Chania and the region of Crete).

The remaining 18,439 people simply landed on the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea. But is 185,000 plus 18,000 this year enough for the government? Of course not, because it is asking for 100,000 more farm workers.
