Greece will take initiatives in the Middle East, says Foreign Minister


Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis said Greece would take initiatives aimed at achieving “beneficial results in the Middle East.”

The Greek Foreign Minister made these statements in Jordan, during his participation in the International Conference on Humanitarian Emergencies in Gaza.

“Greece can and does negotiate with all interested parties, and it is very important to be able to support international efforts to end hostilities in the Middle East. It is the universal demand of Europe and the whole world to stop this nightmare,” – noted Gerapetritis.

He added that, at his proposal in the Council EU A special group will be created for foreign affairs, which will include foreign ministers from both the European Union and Arab countries, to help facilitate the adoption of the peace process.

At the same time, together with the foreign ministers of Portugal and Denmark, he proposed “to form a group that will help reform the institutions of the new Palestinian state, once it is established, to strengthen institutions, peace in the region, and peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine.”

Describing the situation in Gaza as “dramatic”Gerapetritis stressed that Greece fully supports US President Joe Biden's plan for the region and the need for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages and the reconstruction of Gaza.
