Assange: appeal against his extradition to the US will be heard in July

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's appeal against his extradition from the UK to the US will be heard in July, officials in London said today.

Assange, 52, a native of Australia, is fighting extradition to the United States. There he faces 18 charges, almost all under the Espionage Act, in connection with the massive leak of classified American documents – the largest leak of information in US military history.

Last month, the London High Court allowed him to appeal on the grounds that he would not be able to rely on his right to free speech in the case in a US court. The appeal will be heard on July 9-10, a spokesman for the British Office of Litigation said.
