A blood donation scandal has erupted in the UK: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the results of an investigation into the use of HIV- and hepatitis C-contaminated donated blood a “day of shame”.
euronews tellsthat in 1970-1980, approximately 30 thousand people received such blood through transfusion, about three thousand of them died, many became disabled. The reason for this is that testing of donor material for these viruses in the UK began only in the late 80s.
The investigation lasted for seven long years. Now the British government is going to spend billions of pounds to compensate the victims and families of the deceased.
