Today "Super Sunday" elections designed to determine EU policy for the next 5 years (live from 18:00)

The ninth of June is “Super Sunday” of elections to the European Parliament. Millions of voters determine who will shape EU policy for the next five years.

How writes “European Truth”, Sunday's elections are the main and last in the four-day voting cycle, which started on Thursday. The elections will determine the next composition of the European Parliament and, indirectly, the composition of the executive body EU – European Commission.

Voting is taking place in twenty-one EU member states, including France and Germany, which will send the largest number of MPs to the European Parliament: 81 and 96 respectively. Voting on Sunday also takes place in Greece, Poland, Spain, Italy (second day), Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Sweden.

The European Parliament said the EU-wide exit poll results would be released at around 9:30 p.m., with the first preliminary result due after midnight.

Polls predict the Liberals and Greens will lose seats. This would reduce the majority of center-right and center-left parties in the European Parliament and complicate efforts to deepen European integration. Far-right MPs are forecast to strengthen their position compared to the results of the last European elections in 2019.

The centre-right and pro-Ukrainian European People's Party is projected to remain the largest group in the European Parliament. Her candidate Ursula von der Leyen from Germany will try to be re-elected as President of the European Commission, but it is not guaranteed that she will succeed.

Voting has already taken place in the Netherlands. There, according to the exit poll, the party of the anti-Ukrainian Geert Wilders came second. This result means a significant success for the political force, since it did not have a single seat in the previous elections to the European Parliament, and now it is predicted to have seven.

Voting has also already taken place in the Czech Republic, Ireland, Latvia, Slovakia and Malta.
