MyCoast app: 1,900 complaints about beach violations

More than 1,900 complaints about violations of beach rules have been made through the MyCoast mobile app introduced by the Greek government since late April.

MyCoast app allows users to file complaints against tourist establishments that exceed their allotted beach umbrella space or engage in unauthorized activities without the required concession agreement. The possibility of citizens filing complaints has apparently “inspired” Greeks to test the app's capabilities, with some filing complaints about a non-existent beach and an alleged violation at Syntagma Square in central Athens.

According to media reports, most of the complaints concern violations in the Cyclades, Dodecanese and Halkidiki peninsula. The Greek authorities will begin to review them after the completion of the electronic auction process. To this end, the deadline has been extended to June 28 to ensure the gradual completion of the remaining auctions.

To date, there are 959 auctions on the platform, and their total number this year will exceed 1,200.
