Electricity theft: number of inspections increased by 65%

The digitization of internal operating systems, the creation of inspection teams, and the use of modern portable equipment have made it possible DEDDIE increase checks in terms of detecting theft of electricity.

In particular, in the first five months of 2024, compared to the average for the corresponding period last year (as well as in 2022), the number of checks conducted for possible thefts was 13,000 versus 8,000.

The total number of identified violations/theft of electricity, for which the corresponding debt was actually assigned and a letter was sent to the debtor, increased by 50% and amounted to 6,000 versus 4,000 in the corresponding period in 2023 and 2022.

However, at the same time it is observed significant improvement in debt collection rates. In particular, from the beginning of the year to the present day, DEDDIE has recovered approximately 8.5 million euros in recent years. While the corresponding amount last year and the year before was an average of 6.5 million euros. Given the current pace of work, it is expected that by the end of the year more than 30,000 checks will have been carried out throughout the country, and the collection of money from violators will exceed 20 million euros.

DEDDIE intends to continue to modernize its operating system and increase efforts to detect electricity theft in industrial, craft and commercial locations through targeted checks.
