Economical mortgage loans: scenarios for beneficiaries and amounts

The solution to the housing problem is expected to be provided by the new “Spiti My” program, announced on 06/02/24 by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In particular, the Prime Minister of Greece said that the government plans to launch a new program “My Home” worth 2 billion euros, with an expanded circle of beneficiaries and for couples 40-50 years old.

“I’m not ready to announce anything yet,” said Mitsotakis, noting that he is, however, “moderately optimistic that resources will be found from the Recovery Fund to solve a specific housing problem.”

Executives involved in the previous Spiti My program reported, as stated by Mr. Mitsotakis, that “the plan is to expand the scope of beneficiaries to the 40-50 age group” (the previous program covered youth up to 39 years of age) and could mean that the maximum loan ceiling to which a beneficiary will be entitled may be increased.

And all because a couple at this age will be “middle-aged” and therefore more likely they already have 1-2 children. Therefore, a larger house will be required, which will cost more money.

If for the above reason the government will decide to expand not only the age of beneficiaries, but also the volume of subsidized credit, then the circle of beneficiaries of the new program, which is expected to start in September, will be proportionally reduced.

Nearly 10,000 home loans have been sanctioned through the previous €1 billion 'Spiti My' programme.
