Responsibility for the attack on the volunteers lies with a gang of criminals guarding a cannabis plantation on Parnit.

Authorities are close to solving an attack on a group of volunteers in Parnitha woodland on Saturday evening, which appears to be the work of a drug gang from Menidi.

According to police, the attackers were guarding a hashish plantation in the forest near Parnitha. These are immigrants from the countries of the former USSR, living in a house in the Menidi (Aharne) region. Police investigators believe that 4 young men accidentally walked onto a hashish plantation and were noticed by its security guards. That is why, sources say, at first the “guards” simply asked them to leave, but ten minutes later they returned and attacked them.

Police are reported to be very close to identifying the 7 criminals and are reviewing video footage and witnesses to find the two vehicles they arrived in to lead them to the criminals.

Unthinkable: Volunteers who helped clean up Parnita were beaten and stabbed

Everything happened late last Saturday evening May 25th. The volunteer organization's action began on Friday and was supposed to continue the next day, so its members decided to set up camp and spend the night in Parnit, in the area of the Kria Pigi spring near Fili.

Two young men from the group, a 33-year-old and a 32-year-old, decided to spend the night in an abandoned building, and the rest in the forest. Half an hour after one in the morning, two cars drove up to this place, in which there were seven unknown people, they got out of the car and asked two young people why they were there.

They replied that they were members of a volunteer group. The men got into their cars and drove away, but returned ten minutes later and attacked them, beating them mercilessly. The 33-year-old man managed to break free and run into the forest, calling the rest of the group for help, and when they returned to the house, when the criminals had already left, they found their 32-year-old friend severely beaten and stabbed in the back.

The head of the organization “Save your hood” and an eyewitness to the attack, Vassilis Sfakianopoulos, in a conversation with Mega, said that “What happened was unprecedented. We were there to clean up a large area, from Dervenochoria to Anavissos. It was a three-day mission to draw attention to the connection between waste and fires. Due to this, 4 friends got stuck on the mountain due to the amount of garbage we were collecting and decided to spend the night in Kria Pigi. Could we have imagined that a few hours later we would end up in the hospital?“.

PS If everything the police say is true, the guys are lucky they weren't killed. I would like to note that I myself have walked through this area several times and apparently also risked getting to this plantation…
