They couldn't believe what they saw after hearing an Albanian woman calling for help from an abandoned building in Omonia.
The woman was raped, handcuffed and brutally abused. As it turned out, the criminal was arrested a few hours earlier; he turned out to be from Palestine.
It all started at dawn on Monday (27.5.2024) when a 33-year-old Albanian citizen met a 27-year-old rapist who lured her to an abandoned house in Omonia, where she was raped. After beating her, he forced her to perform oral sex, continuing to strike her. She told the police that she didn’t remember anything since then… She woke up a few hours later, tied by her arms and legs to the bed and severely beaten.
She screamed for help and luckily for her, her cries were heard by police shortly after 9pm on Monday. Police from the DIAS team entered the building where the screams were coming from and found the door padlocked. After breaking it open, they found a bleeding woman, beaten and tied to a bed. The rapist also stabbed her in the thigh.
The police investigation revealed that the perpetrator, a Palestinian national, had been arrested a few hours earlier for another crime. In particular, at noon on Monday he was stopped for a check in Omonia, and a 23-centimeter knife was found on him. He was then taken to the Omonia police station, where he was arrested. As soon as the woman came to her senses, she immediately recognized her tormentor and rapist.
The woman was taken to the Gennimatas hospital and then to Sotiria. The Palestinian is expected to appear again today before an investigating judge, facing charges of causing dangerous bodily harm, kidnapping and rape, as well as violating the Weapons Act.
