Bosnian Serbs begin the process of secession from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The proclamation of July 11 as a global day of remembrance for the Srebrenica genocide by the UN General Assembly seems to have reopened Pandora's box, as the strong reaction of the Bosnian Serb political leadership now turns into a warning and the beginning of the process of secession from the single (artificial) unitary state of Bosnia-Herzegovina .

The government of the Republic of Serbia (Republika Srpska), one of the two entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina, decided today to begin political procedures for the dissolution of the unitary state, announcing the creation of a working group to reach an agreement on a peaceful separation from the current unified state.

Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik announced the development of a “peaceful demarcation” plan. He said the plan would be ready in 30 days and presented to the political leaders of the other two ethnic communities – Bosnian Muslims and Croats. Dodik said that this plan envisages, at the first stage, “demarcation” at the political level, where each entity will pursue an independent policy.

According to him, “there will be coherence in the economic sphere and European politics for several years until both sides adapt to the new situation and a final break occurs.” The Serbian leader noted that the disintegration of Bosnia will be carried out by peaceful means.

It is noted that the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina provides for the “right of self-determination” for ethnic communities if it is proven that they are being oppressed or their existence is under threat. Events in the Balkans are now developing rapidly, and no one knows what the future holds.
