Time to go to the beach: sea water temperature +20°C

Summer weather is expected to be “in full force” across the country this weekend, so plan to spend the weekend at the beach.

EMY director and meteorologist Thodoris Kolidas reported “high temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday” which will significantly affect sea temperatures. According to the weather forecaster, sea temperatures are expected to exceed +20°C.

“Along with the increase in air temperature, the water in the Greek seas will also warm up over the coming weekend. Despite the fact that, as is known, daily and annual changes in sea surface temperature have a much smaller range of fluctuations than changes in earth and air surface temperatures,” notes Mr. Kolidas.

“This is due to the high heat capacity that characterizes the sea, the low absorption that characterizes the water, as well as the constant agitation of its surface by sea currents, etc. Thus, the daily range changes by only one degree,” he concludes.

According to a table published by meteorologist Sakis Arnautoglu on Facebook, from At the beginning of June, the country enters a phase of gradual and significant increase in air temperature.

In the table he published, the hottest day is Monday, when thermometers will show temperatures up to +36°C. In addition, as Sakis Arnautoglou notes, “if you are in the west and south of mainland Greece, as well as in Attica and Crete away from the sea, add 2-3 degrees to the indicated air temperature.”
