A hidden paradise without tourists: an island where you can relax for just 15 euros per night

If you are dreaming of a “Mykonian” vacation, swimming in “golden” pools to the sounds of the latest hits with a glass of an unrivaled cocktail in hand, you are definitely in the wrong place.

You see, the beautiful Old Trikeri (Παλαιό Τρίκερι) is for the few. For very few. We are talking about the enchantingly beautiful island of South Pelion, which time seems to have forgotten forever. But the hours spent here will be remembered for the rest of your life!

You will already understand something from the moment you decide to visit the island. Grab your bathing suit, casual clothes, your partner, a good book and get ready. You literally won't need anything else.

The only way to get to the island is by water taxi. No problem, because, as we already said, a small suitcase/backpack is enough for your vacation. We go to Alogoporos, board a water taxi and… goodbye, civilization. From now on, all you will see is the sea, greenery, mountains Pelion and Roumeli.

You won't find the car anywhere. This is completely useless, considering that in three hours you can walk around the island from one end to the other.

Upon arrival you will see no more than a few dozen permanent residents, who make a living from their business on the island: traditional taverns, rental housing and cafes. If you haven't tried Greek coffee with a view of the sea and mountains, then you have no idea what you're missing.

Taverns serve fresh fish, fried squid and octopus with vinegar. Everything is simple there. You drink ouzo and enjoy delicious fish dishes that delightfully “smell of summer and sea.” There are guest houses as well as several suites. However, adventure lovers choose something else. Something completely different.

Would you say yes to a stay at the monastery of Panagia Evangelistria, at the top of the island hill? We are talking about a magnificent temple that pirates began to build in 1825 after they found the famous icon of the Virgin Mary at the root of a tree. Construction was completed in 1837. It housed 5,000 women exiled for their political beliefs during the Civil War.

No matter how strange it may sound, but those who decide stay in one of the 100 cells of the Holy Monastery, enjoying a magnificent view, privacy, a fresh breakfast in the paved courtyard and absolute peace of mind, we highly recommend it. This is the best and very cheap holiday, which will cost a couple less than 15 euros per day.

The beaches here are few and far between, but they are beautiful. Locals call them Afetka, Agia Sofia and Prasini Amos. All of them are located close to each other. Wild, with turquoise waters and so pure it's hard to believe.

This is an island for couples. However, between you and me, either way, if you go there alone, you'll have a great time. Who doesn't need a little isolation every now and then?
