As a beautiful Greek island, as beautiful as Rhodes and Crete but without the massive tourist crowds, Sifnos is featured in a recent extensive British Express report.
A popular British newspaper is urging millions of its readers to visit “the most delicious Greek island” this year, which has a rich culinary tradition and has not lost its authenticity.
The tiny island has earned a reputation heaven for foodies. While many restaurants have sprung up using traditional ingredients in modern ways, Sifnos' culinary roots run deep. Thanks to the signature red clay, which has been used for centuries to make pots and vessels, Sifnos slow cooking. That is, “simmering” dishes in pots.
Discover the island's cliffside taverns, fish bars and gourmet restaurants, as well as its secluded coves and artisan pottery studios.
In addition, according to Express, Sifnos has the most churches in the Aegean Sea and is an ideal destination for those who want to visit picturesque villages, admire enchanting natural scenery and walk along organized routes. The publication specifically mentions last summer's record numbers and awards in international media lists, naming Sifnos precious pearl of the Mediterranean.
“A dynamic season is expected with visitors from Greece and many foreign markets. The development of a tourism product with history, tradition, gastronomy, natural beauty and alternative activities that can be enjoyed before and after the high season is encouraging. After all, the increase in the flow of travelers is not accidental,” says the vice-mayor of Sifnos, Yiannis Rapheletos.
