India: 14 dead and 74 injured in billboard collapse (video)

At least 14 people were killed and 74 injured when a large billboard collapsed during severe weather in Mumbai, India.

There are fears that many more people are trapped under a nearly 30-metre-high metal shield that collapsed at a petrol pump in the suburb of Ghatkopar in the eastern Indian metropolis, Indian media reported.

Video broadcast by Indian television channels showed the metal shield swaying in strong winds before collapsing, crushing buildings, cars and passersby.

A search and rescue operation is underway at the scene as authorities estimate 20-30 people remain trapped under the rubble, the Times of India reported. Cranes were brought to the site to clear the rubble.

The weather uprooted trees and toppled other signs across the city, causing injuries, and shutting down international airport operations for about an hour, Indian news agency ANI reported.
