ΕΛΣΤΑΤ: in 2023, the number of new enterprises increased by 6.1%

According to ΕΛΣΤΑΤthe number of registrations of new enterprises (business start-ups) for all sectors of the economy in 2023 was 112,002, which is 6.1% more than in 2022, when their number increased to 105,565.

According to the data, in the main sectors of economic activity the largest increase in the number of registrations of new enterprises in 2023, compared to 2022, amounted to:

• in the Construction sector (16.1%)
• in the Transport and Storage sector (16.1%).

At the same time, a decrease was recorded in the sector “Supply of electricity, natural gas, steam and air conditioning” (56.1%) and in the sector “Information and communications” (3.7%).

Quantity business bankruptcies in all sectors of the economy in 2023 amounted to 11. As noted, data on business bankruptcies in all sectors of the economy in 2022 are not published for privacy reasons in terms of protecting personal data.

Number of new business registrations across all sectors of the economy in the 4th quarter of 2023 amounted to 27,542, which is 9.2% less than in the 4th quarter of 2022, when their number reached 30,316, and increased by 18.0% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2023 (23,350 ).

For the main sectors of economic activity with the largest contribution to the total turnover, according to ΕΛΣΤΑΤ, greatest increase the number of new business registrations in the 4th quarter of 2023, compared to the 4th quarter of 2022, was recorded in the Transportation and Storage sector (37.2%) and in the Construction sector (13.4%), then as appropriate greatest decrease recorded in the Electricity, Natural Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning sector (65.4%) and in the Information and Communication sector (25.8%). Bankruptcies of enterprises in all sectors of the economy in the 4th quarter of 2023 amounted to 5 compared to the 4th quarter of 2022, which increased to 3.

Sectors of economic activity in which it is registered the largest number of new enterprises in the largest geographical regions of Greece are:

• Northern Greece: “Wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars and motorcycles”, 984 new (total 6112).
• Central Greece: “Agriculture, forestry and fisheries”, 1978 new (total 6201).
• Attica: “Professional, scientific and technical activities”, 2211 new (total 11,602).
• Aegean Islands – Crete: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries”, 1370 new (total 3627).

Sectors of economic activity in which it is registered largest number of new businessesby category of organizational and legal forms are:

• Individual entrepreneurs: “Agriculture, forestry and fishing”, 4732 new (total 17908).
• Personal entrepreneurship: “Wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars and motorcycles”, 984 new (4471 in total).
• Capital Enterprises: Property Management, 114 new (464 total).
• Other legal forms: “Wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars and motorcycles” – 794 new and “Real estate management” – 794 new (total 4699).
