In an interview with Carlson, Putin made a historical excursion and announced his readiness for negotiations (video)

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a two-hour interview to American journalist Tucker Carlson. He justified the military invasion of Ukraine as a “coup d’etat” in 2014 and Kyiv’s refusal to implement the Minsk agreements.

Putin said that the Russian Federation “has not yet achieved its goals,” but is ready for negotiations. On Thursday, February 8, the journalist published an interview, the first half hour of which was devoted to the history of Russia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine – from the Varangians to Lenin, tells D.W.

Putin then noted that The Russian Federation “has not yet achieved its goals” in Ukraine, because one of them is “denazification”. Experts have repeatedly emphasized that the narrative of the Russian authorities that Ukraine is led by Nazis has no relation to reality: in the last parliamentary elections in Ukraine, these parties received a total of 2.15% of the votes.

The President of the Russian Federation in an interview spoke about a united people, arguing that Ukrainians “still feel like Russians.” He announced the readiness of the Russian Federation for negotiations with Ukraineagain accusing Ukraine of allegedly abandoning negotiations with Russia after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kyiv in 2022, under the influence of Washington and Boris Johnson.

At the end of January this year, Bloomberg reported that the Kremlin secretly sent a signal to Washington about its readiness for negotiations on achieving peace in Ukraine and the possibility of abandoning demands for the neutral status of this country. However, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov later denied the agency’s report about the Russian authorities’ readiness to make concessions to Ukraine. At the same time, the US administration had previously seen no signs of Putin’s readiness for serious peace negotiations, DW writes. Western officials believe that the Russian President intends to “sit out the West” and continue the war until Western support for Ukraine weakens.

Putin said Russia has no interest in attacking Europe, commenting on the growing fears in European countries: “The Russian Federation has no interests either in Poland or in Latvia – nowhere. Russia will send its troops to Poland only in one case: if there is an attack on Russia from Poland.” He called conversations about the Russian Federation’s plans to use tactical nuclear weapons “horror stories,” although he had previously repeatedly mentioned the threat of using nuclear weapons.

To Carlson’s question about the alleged perpetrators of sabotage on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines Putin replied: “You, of course,” meaning the United States. He added that the Russian Federation is ready to continue supplying gas to Germany via the surviving branch of the gas pipeline and complained that Berlin is not opening it. Almost a year and a half ago, Germany completely abandoned Russian gas due to the Russian war against Ukraine.
