New bank fees for withdrawing money from another bank’s ATM


From January 1, 2024, the commission will be reduced for those who withdraws money from an ATM of the wrong bankin which they have an account.

Fines for banks

This happened after the corresponding decisions of the Competition Commissionwhich ruled that the banks had previously agreed to follow general practice regarding the fees they charge customers, not only for ATM withdrawals, but also for issuing/renewing cards and electronic transactions.

The commission imposed Piraeus Bank, National Bank, Alpha Bank, Eurobank and Attica Bank face large fines, the total amount of which after settlement exceeded 41 million euros. In addition, the commission obliged banks to maintain updated (and reduced) commission levels for 3 years, with the possibility of imposing a fine in case of non-compliance.

New ATM service fees

Alpha Bank
When withdrawing cash from Alfa Bank ATMs from the account of another credit institution, the commission amount was reduced to 1.80 euros from 2.50, which was in effect until 2024. At the same time, for interbank transactions carried out using Alfa Bank cards at ATMs inside and outside the eurozone, including the DIAS interbank system, the commission is set as follows. When withdrawing funds from a credit card/loan (cash advance) at ATMs of other banks, the commission is set in the amount of:

  • When replenishing your account, in particular for a prepaid Alfa-Bank MasterCard card, the first replenishment is free.
  • The cost of replenishing the card is 1% of the amount, the minimum commission is 1.00 euros, the maximum is 5.00 euros.

Eurobank
If previously you had to pay 2.50 euros to withdraw cash from a Eurobank ATM using a card from another bank, now the commission has been reduced to 1.80 euros. Please note that the bank introduces a daily limit of €1000, common for ATMs (APS), for the following transactions:

1) order in euros to a domestic bank with crediting to a deposit account;

2) transfer from a Eurobank account to a third party’s Eurobank account;

3) payment by a third party Eurobank credit card;

4) payment of a third party’s credit account;

5) payment order for a credit card issued by another bank through DIAS. Payment transactions for organizations are excluded from the limit.

National Bank

For the Εθνική Τράπεζα (National Bank), a fee of 1.90 euros per withdrawal has been established, which is significantly lower than the previous amount, which was almost 2.60 euros.

Bank Attica

Attica Bank’s ATM withdrawal fee for cards issued by other institutions is €1.50, up from the previous €2.
