Casino in Elliniko: the first stone has been laid

The Hard Rock – GEK TERNA joint venture has begun construction of a casino (IRC) in Elliniko after the foundation stone was laid there in a ceremonial ceremony. Construction of the facility is expected to be completed at the end of 2026.

GEK TERNA President Georgios Peristeris, in the context of the start of work, noted that “the project starts with a much larger budget than previously expected, but this only speaks of the greater quality characteristics of the multifunctional complex. This fact proves that we respect our commitments, and when we say that we are investing in Greece, these are not just words, but actions. The project is expected to be operational within 3 years and will create 3,000 construction jobs followed by 3,000 well-paying jobs.”

The IRC includes a hotel, world-class casino, convention center and concert venues. “Funds of €1.5 billion are being invested in the Integrated Tourism Casino Complex (IRC) in Elliniko, creating a destination with global reach. Within three years we will meet the budget. We believed in this particular project from the very beginning and thought that it would eventually come to fruition, despite all the ups and downs,” said Mr. Jim Allen, President of Hard Rock International.

The casino hotel will be the only integrated casino resort in continental Europe. It will include a five-star hotel with a capacity of approximately 1,000 rooms or 3,500 beds. There will also be a modern casino and an exhibition center with an area of 23,700 sq.m. and a venue for sports and cultural events with a capacity of 10,000 seats.

The complex will feature almost 20 cafes and restaurants (including the Hard Rock Cafe), a conference hall and a concert venue that will host 40,000 musical performances with celebrities.

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens will be an international destination offering guests an exciting combination of entertainment, dining and accommodation, taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate and providing specially designed outdoor spaces.

It is noted that in addition to the 3,000 new jobs that the project will create, it will bring the state 150 million euros for an operating license and significant revenue from the gambling tax.
