Construction has begun on the Hard Rock Casino in Athens


Project of a casino and Hard Rock hotel on the Athens Riviera.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the luxury Hard Rock Resort and Casino in the heart of Athens took place on Friday at the historic Ellinikon Airport.

The subsequent ceremony took place at the Hellinikon Experience Center with the participation of Hard Rock International executives, GEK TERNA Group executives, representatives of the Greek government, political figures and local community leaders.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens will be the first integrated resort of its kind in continental Europe and will serve as an economic driver for entertainment and tourism in the city of Athens.

The resort, expected to open in 2027, will be a unique destination combining an upscale hotel, a world-class gaming facility, world-class meeting and conference space, a state-of-the-art entertainment venue, world-renowned food and beverage options, and a luxurious Rock Spa® and a swimming pool complex, as well as an upscale shopping promenade.

The €1.5 billion project is a state-of-the-art facility that is projected to provide 3,000 construction jobs and 3,000 permanent jobs, which will not only stimulate the local economy of Athens, but will also have a direct positive impact on the Greek economy, the press release states. -Hard Rock release.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens is a vibrant casino consisting of 180 tables and 1,500 slot machines, and a tower consisting of 1,100 guest rooms and 15 restaurants. Additionally, the project includes a 3,000-seat Hard Rock Live Theater with seating for 4,000 guests, as well as the Rock® Spa and Body Rock Fitness Center.

Inspired by the rich heritage and culture of Athens, as well as the beautiful Mediterranean landscape, this one-of-a-kind center expands Hard Rock’s growing presence in Europe.

Hard Rock and GEK TERNA Group’s commitment to this project reflects a shared vision with the Greek government and Lamda Development to transform the historic Ellinikon Airport into a world-class redevelopment that will contribute to the further development of the city and Greece’s tourism industry.
