Taste Atlas: The World’s Best Greek Salad (And It’s Not "Khoryatiki")


Two Greek salads have been named among the top five dishes in the world by Taste Atlas.

Greece “takes” one award after another, winning the prestigious culinary competition. After second place in the “top” cuisines of the planet, third place in the best breakfasts in the world (bougatsa), Greek cuisine is again in the lead: two salads were in the top five in the world, and one of them is at the top of the ranking.

In a list published by Taste Atlas, dacos was named the best salad in the world. In the top 5, in fourth place, was country salad. With an excellent rating of 5, the dacos received a rating of 4.62 and the country salad received a rating of 4.43.

For reference: in second place with a score of 4.53 was the salad from Indonesia “Pechel”, in third place – from Tunisia “Mechuya” (4.48) and in fifth place – from Bulgaria “Shopska” (4.41).

A dish (snack) related to salads – Ντάκος, is a cracker made from coarse barley flour, usually round, the size of a palm, covered with a layer of ripe, sliced ​​​​tomatoes and generously sprinkled with myzithra cheese and oregano. “Greek salad, also known as country salad (Χωριάτικη σαλάτα), is the national dish of Greece, consisting of quartered tomatoes, sliced ​​red onion and thick slices of cucumber.
