The United States has figured out how to confiscate Russia’s frozen assets.
How reports Financial Times December 17, The West is actively exploring ways to confiscate frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. In the USA, it seems, they came up with it.
In recent weeks, the United States has taken a more assertive stance in private negotiations regarding the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. At the G7 meetings, it was argued that there is a path to asset confiscation that is “consistent with international law.” The US government document states: “Russian assets could be confiscated as a countermeasure to induce Russia to cease its aggression.”
A US official, writes BB.LV, said that Washington is conducting active negotiations regarding the use of Russian assets and believes that a decision needs to be made quickly. This issue could be discussed at a possible meeting of the G7 leaders, timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
