The MRB social survey found the following: 40.3% of respondents agree with same-sex marriage, but 68.7% do not agree with allowing children to have children through it.
According to MRB trends, the idea of same-sex marriage is beginning to gain a foothold in public opinion. However, the majority reject adoption. According to the second part of the IRB Trends survey for December, 40.3% approve of the right to marriage for same-sex couples.
Certainly In general, the attitude of Greek society towards any initiatives in this direction is negative. In particular, regarding marriages of same-sex couples, 52.9% of citizens have a negative position, and 40.3% have a positive position. Women aged 17 to 34 and people with higher education show higher levels of tolerance.
MRB: Nearly 7 in 10 disagree with same-sex adoption. Adoption attracts the highest percentage of those who disagree – 68.7%, with only 24.2% agreeing with the provision of this right.
Views on both the right to marriage and the right to procreation have clear ideological coloring: those citizens who define themselves as right/center-right are more negative, and center, left, and center-left are most positive. Voters of the ruling party have a negative attitude towards both marriage and childbearing: 60.7% and 77.4%, respectively.
Finally, when respondents were asked if they would go to a same-sex couple’s wedding, 31.5% said they would have no problem going; 18.3% will go, but will feel discomfort; 21.6% will find an excuse not to go; and 22.6% will completely ignore the invitation, considering it offensive.
