Ahead of talks between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ebrahim Raisi scheduled for December 7, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, his Iranian counterpart, signed a declaration on means to counter and offset the negative effects of sanctions.
Both countries are subject to harsh sanctions – Iran due to its nuclear program, the Russian Federation due to the annexation of Crimea and a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Moscow, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted: quotes euronews:
“We have just signed a declaration on ways and means to counter, mitigate and compensate for the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures. Of course, this is an important step in increasing the coordination of efforts among members of the international community to overcome illegal sanctions, which the United States and its allies have made a substitute for diplomacy.”
