An unexpected thing happened in South Korea – a packaging robot mistook an employee of a vegetable sorting plant for… a box of vegetables and simply crushed it with its “hand”, pressing on the chest and face.
How writes The Guardian, citing a report by South Korean news agency Yonhap, said a 40-year-old robotics company worker was checking the operation of a robot’s sensors at an agricultural distribution center in South Gyeongsangsan province.
The robot appears to have malfunctioned. At this time, he lifted the boxes of bell peppers and placed them on a pallet. Mistaking the man for one of these boxes, the robotic arm pressed him against the conveyor belt, crushing his face and chest. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors could only confirm his death.
How writes Air Force, in South Korea, accidents involving robots have been reported before. In March, for example, a 50-year-old Korean man was seriously injured after being trapped by a robot at an auto parts factory.
