The 2023 Feofano Prize awarded by the UN to Antonio Guterres

This year, the Empress Theophano Prize was awarded to the United Nations, represented by Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General.

The award celebrates the humanitarian role of multilateral leadership as a catalyst for solving global problems.

The 4th Pan-European Empress Theofano Prize is awarded to the United Nations in honor of Mr. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, global leader of the world’s largest international organization promoting multilateral cooperation.

Following on from its awards in education, science and the arts, this year the Teofano Foundation focuses on the key role of humanism, especially through the lens of multilateralism, as a catalyst for solving global problems.

In this context, the award of the 2023 Empress Theophano Prize to the United Nations recognizes its valuable contribution to building bridges between countries, commitment to peace and work to strengthen international cooperation in areas such as sustainable development, disarmament, human and women’s rights, combating terrorism and protecting the planet.

All these achievements, which have made humanity safer and more prosperous, are the ideals that underlie the principles of the Feofano Foundation.

By presenting the Empress Theofano Award to Mr. Antonio Guterres, the head and representative of the United Nations, the foundation also recognizes his long-term work and unwavering commitment to solving global problems with the interests of future generations in mind. The Secretary-General spares no effort as he travels the world, using his good offices to mobilize global support and seek compromise on complex geopolitical and social issues, guided by the spirit and paradigm of political responsibility. His own words: “We must overcome our differences to change our future,” the organizers emphasize in a statement.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Thessaloniki at the Rotunda monument, a symbol of multiculturalism. The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, will grace the event with her presence, and leading figures from Europe and Greece will also attend.
