New ID cards: 30,000 requests in less than four hours

No sooner had the electronic platform opened for registering citizens for the issuance or replacement of a new type of identity card than citizens rushed to make an appointment.

In particular, on September 25, from 08:30, when id.gov.gr was launched, almost 30,000 entries were assigned until 12:00. It is noted that new places for registration are opened every day, subject to availability, determined by the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

A citizen who has an appointment at a police station must provide: name, email address and, if necessary, telephone number. A third party can make an appointment, but for service, the citizen must be present in person.

Once the request is completed, an email is sent to verify the address provided by the interested party. Subsequently, the citizen receives in a confirmed email the basic information for completing the procedure, as well as contact details of the document issuing authority of his choice (police department).

An appointment can be rescheduled, canceled or rescheduled up to eight hours in advance. The interested party receives a reminder message from the platform to their specified email address 24 hours in advance, as well as two hours before the start of the scheduled meeting.

There is also a time gap between stakeholder appointments, sufficient for one visit to be completed before the next one begins.

In case of loss or theft of a police identification card, a citizen must contact the competent authority that issued it, based on his permanent or temporary residence address in Greece, and request an appointment for the issuance of a new tautotita.
