"Wow wow!": Guinness World Record Soup Cooked in Greece


Gourmets will have a chance to try fish soup “from the Guinness Book of Records”. In Sitia (Crete), on the evening of August 18, at 20:00, a tasting of a noble fish soup – kakavyi will take place in the central square.

According to cretapost, the Sitia Municipality and the Sitia Development Organization (OAS) intend to set the GWR record (GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS) and prepare the largest portion of fish soup (κακαβιά). To do this, on August 18, an evaluator of records (from the Guinness organization) was officially invited to the central square of the city. The tasting will take place in the presence of famous chefs, public cultural organizations, as well as everyone who wants to take part in an exciting and “delicious” event.

Particularly important is the active participation of volunteers who will contribute to the successful the process of evaluating and fixing the Guinness World Record. According to the city’s announcement, “After many months of preparation and consultation with the Guinness organization, the municipality of Sitia has succeeded in applying for a record by officially including the term kakavya in the Guinness World Records list.”

The mayor of Sitia, Giorgos Zervakis, said that the event promotes traditional products of local quality, develops tourism and promotes the region as a culinary destination. Kakavya is a delicious thick fish soup (ukha) with excellent nutritional value. It is an integral part of the Mediterranean diet.

The event is organized by the regional authorities of Crete, the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives, local professional and amateur fishermen, as well as other local authorities.
