“War” for the beach between nudists and the municipality of Gavdos

Daily “episodes” take place on the nudist beach of Sarakinikos in Gavdos with the authorities of the municipality.

The sign that the municipality placed on the beach at the beginning of the summer, saying that “nudism is prohibited”, is constantly being removed by the citizens who disagree with the decision, and the authorities reinstall it. Which eventually caused an angry reaction from the municipality.

In his latest statement, titled “Nudism and the Law of the Powerful Ones”, Mayor Lilian Stefanaki notes that “the regional authorities of Gavdos are complying with the decision of the municipal council by responding to the request of the local community to ban the nudist beach and turn it into a normal one that would be suitable for recreation for families with children. Local citizens, they say, want a beach where every citizen, local resident or visitor can enjoy their vacation equally.”

Announcement by the municipality, according to cretalive: “At 02:00 08/15/23, three people, two women and a man, known to holidaymakers on the island, were seen by Gavdos municipality personnel when they were removing the prohibition sign. Against them will be prosecuted for “violation of the law.”

Recently, there has been a big controversy between the local community and vacationers about nudism on this beach. It was decided to ban nudism here, since residential buildings, tourist accommodation, as well as most of the island’s shops are located nearby.

Due to the systematic destruction of prohibition signs, the Gavdos municipality has previously filed complaints for damage to public property. Moreover, the plate was immediately installed again. Violators will be subject to the provisions of the law.
