Labor inspection fines of €1.2 million

Fines of €1,230,500 were imposed by the Labor Inspectorate during recent inspections to combat labor exploitation.

The new controls were carried out as part of EMPACT Joint Action Days by labor inspectorates in 31 European countries, coordinated by Europol and supported by Eurojust, the European Labor Agency and Frontex.

Groups of inspectors (Επιθεώρηση Εργασίας), together with the Greek police, carried out inspections to identify violations of labor laws, as well as cases of labor exploitation and undeclared personnel.

The audit activities were directed to a wide range of activities such as agricultural production (e.g. greenhouses and packaging plants), wholesale and retail trade, catering, waste management, food production, employment agencies (ECA), event organization, office services and accommodation.

The inspections focused on labour-intensive industries, where workers whose labor rights are violated are more common. A total of 165 violations were revealed in 271 inspections (undeclared work, illegal employment of foreigners, illegal employment of minors, etc.) and 188 fines were imposed in the amount of 1,230,500 euros.

Checks are ongoing.
