The largest project in Athens that will change the transport system and make life easier for the citizens


Work continues on the construction of the 4th metro line, which will completely change the movement of residents and visitors in the capital of Greece.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the line under construction one of the largest projects being implemented in our country during a meeting with Christos Staikouras at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Metro Line 4 is the largest transport project in Greece with a budget of 1.5 billion euros and is expected to be completed in 96 months (8 years).

As a reminder, the first section of the line is Alsos Veiko-Goudi, with a length of 13 km and a total of 15 stations: Alsos Veiko, Galatsi, Helikonos, Kipseli, Dikastiriya, Alexandras, Exarchia, Academy, Kolonaki, Evangelismos, Kaisariani, Panestimioupolis, Ilisia, Zografou and Gudi (Άλσος Βεϊκου-Γ ουδή, με μήκος 13 χλμ.και συνολικά 15 σταθμούς οι οποίοι είναι οι εξής: Άλσος Βεϊ κου, Γαλάτσι, Ελικώνος, Κυψέλη, Δικαστήρια, Αλεξάνδρας, Εξάρχεια, Ακαδημία, Κολω νάκι, Ευαγγελισμός, Καισαριανή, Πανεστημιούπολη, Ιλίσια, Ζωγράφου και Γουδή).

As in the Thessaloniki metro, trains will operate without a driver and their movement will be controlled through the control center of line 4and protective transparent automatic doors (panels) will be installed on the platforms, which will open only when trains arrive, which will significantly increase the safety of passengers.

Section A of Metro Line 4 was designed to serve many densely populated areas of the city, as well as many important buildings and structures such as hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and large public buildings of organizations or ministries.

At the same time, the network of existing metro lines will be extended with 2 transitional (cross) stations (University/Academy, Evangelismos). Connection of Akadimia station with University station (line 2) and Evangelismos station (connection with line 3).

The route Alsos-Veiko-Panepistimoupoli will last 14 minutes, Alsos-Veiko-Dikastiria – 5 minutes, and Alsos-Veiko-Goudis – 16 minutes.

In addition, the metro will carry about 340,000 passengers per day, and car trips will be reduced by about 53,000, helping to reduce CO2 emissions by 318 tons per day. GCity reconstruction of adjacent infrastructure at 15 stations of the 4th metro line will amount to 85,000 sq.m., 3,000 trees will be planted and more than 5,000 new jobs will be created.
