The decision to extend for another year the mandate of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was agreed by the members of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Official decision writes Politico, citing American and European diplomats, is expected next week. The interlocutors of the publication, including a high-ranking NATO official, confirmed that a consensus has been reached among 31 countries, the extension of the powers of the Secretary General is already “a completed matter”, and the decision “will be formalized next week.”
It should be recalled that none of Stoltenberg’s potential successors could get the support of 31 NATO member states, which were considered: Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
