Greek tourism performance in the first months of 2023 is exceptionally positive, boding a particularly successful season.
Passenger traffic at the 14 regional airports operated by Fraport Greece was reportedly at over 3.5 million in the first quarter of 2023, up from 2019, and saw a double-digit increase in April this year compared to April 2019.
Totally agree April, which marks the start of the summer program for some airlines, an increase in passenger traffic was recorded at 14 regional airports (Aktio, Chania, Corfu, Kavala, Kefalonia, Thessaloniki, Zakynthos, Kos, Mytilini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini, Skiathos). The figure increased by +13.3%, reaching a total of 1.63 million passengers compared to 1.44 million passengers in April 2019.
During the first four months (characterized as a low season period), the growth compared to 2019 corresponds to +4.7% in total passenger traffic, reaching 3.513 million passengers this year from 3.356 million in the first quarter of 2019 .
Meanwhile, international traffic was up 11.4% to 1,778 million from 1,597 million in the first quarter of 2019, while domestic traffic was down 1.4% to 1,734 million.
In terms of performance, Thessaloniki Airport, the largest of the regional airports, has fully recovered compared to 2019 with a total of 1,717 million passengers.
The highest growth rates, 39% and 41%, are registered in Aktio and Skiathos. Rhodes has shown impressive results, with passenger traffic up 29% to 491,000 in the first four months, and international traffic up 60% compared to 2019.
