Lamia: wild boars calmly walk the streets of the city

Wild boars make daily walks along Kalivion Avenue, in the areas of Pagrati and Kalivion Lamia. Their presence on the avenue, according to lamiareport.gr, is extremely dangerous, as it is a busy highway where cars develop high speeds and animals can cause serious accidents.

The video was filmed at midnight between Manou Hadjidakis Street and Kalivion Avenue at the level of the Galaxias supermarket. Wild boars are completely indifferent to a passing car and carelessly graze on the grass near the railway line.

These wild boars are hybrids with common domestic pigs. They give birth not to three or four cubs, like ordinary wild boars, but about eight piglets, like ordinary pigs, and are now a big problem for the provincial cities of Central Greece and beyond due to excessive numbers.

But the main problem is the ban on hunting. The authorities are extremely reluctant to issue licenses for shooting wild boars, and during this time their numbers have increased several times and reached a dangerous level. From time to time, local authorities give licenses to shoot a limited number of wild boars, but the gains outweigh the losses many times over.
