Sudan: Two injured Greeks missing – can’t find the ambulance that took them

Fighting in Sudan between the coup government and paramilitary groups continues, with new reports today that an ambulance carrying two wounded Greeksdisappeared in an unknown direction.

The Metropolitan of Nubia and All Sudan, Mr. Savvas, in an interview with journalists of the TV channel ΣΚΑΙ, said that the last time they seen on a stretcher at the entrance to the bombed-out hospital. At this time, an ambulance arrived to take them to the Greek community, where they were safe. However, the connection was interrupted, and since then their fate is unknown, since no one knows where they are and cannot find them.

At the same time, on its official Twitter page, RSF assured the Egyptian government and the families of the soldiers, who have been stuck at Marawi airport since Saturday amid ongoing clashes, that they are safe and sound and receiving the necessary assistance. “The soldiers will surrender when the right opportunity presents itself and in accordance with the conditions the country is experiencing,” RSF said.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reiterated early Tuesday that the presence of Egyptian troops in Sudan was for training purposes only and not in support of any particular side, reaffirming that intensive negotiations were underway to ensure their security.

Marawi Airport, which includes a military base, is located in the Marawi region of the northern state of Sudan – 350 kilometers north of the capital Khartoum. On Saturday, the Egyptian military said in a statement that it is “coordinating with stakeholders in Sudan to ensure the security of Egyptian troops conducting joint exercises with their Sudanese counterparts.”

The Egyptian military’s statement came shortly after the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedty” Dagalo, posted a video on its official Twitter account showing several soldiers in Egyptian military clothing allegedly captured at Marawi Air Base. in northern Sudan.
