Most Greeks deeply distrust state institutions and pro-government media

A sample of just over 4,000 likely voters polled last month reveals a deep distrust of Greece’s political institutions, as well as official media close to the authorities.

Among the respondents 83.2% said they had little or no trust in political parties. The same negative attitude is expressed towards the judiciary (69%), parliament (68.9%), independent authorities (65.1%), the government (64.3%), the president of the republic (63.7%) and the prime minister. (60.6%). The least trusted institution is, of course, the pro-government media: 91.6% of respondents do not fully or partially trust them.

It should be noted that the election firm asked voters to express their trust in the institutions of power themselves, and not in its current representatives. Despite the negative, five out of six respondents (83%) agreed that democracy is the best system of government, and 69% are extremely unhappy with how it functions in Greece.

In addition, 60.1% consider their current economic situation to be unsatisfactory compared to 15.2% who are satisfied and 24.5% who are not entirely satisfied. Finally, 69.4% support keeping the country in the Eurozone.

It is clear that such a survey does not reflect the mood of the whole society. However, judging by the mood among the residents of Greece polled by the editors over the past years, more and more voters are dissatisfied with the current situation and cannot give preference to any of the parties. Or, as one of our readers put it, “we choose not even the best of the worst, but the less vile of the vilest” …

The people are well aware that the Greek political parties and institutions of power do not work for the people, but for themselves, without hesitation, following orders from Brussels or Washington. It is precisely such methods of management that cause disappointment, since the citizens of Greece do not see a way out of this situation.

Parties come and go from the “feed” of power, but life does not improve, despite the active attempts of the official media to tell that life has become better and life has become more fun. Apparently, something needs to be changed in the very structure of power, at least in the methods of nominating candidates, introducing liability for false election promises and, most importantly, for increasing wealth while in public office.
