Volunteers who have taken on the task of disposing of aid packages to victims from other regions of Turkey are outraged that they often find dirty and worthless clothes among them. In particular, in many cities of Turkey, points have been created where citizens can come and leave essential items for the victims of the earthquake. Due to bad weather conditions and at a time when many victims are still in terrible conditions, deprived of everything, including outerwear (warm clothes), they urgently need food, hygiene products and blankets, etc.
According to the Turkish edition of Milliyet, while in the beginning, priority was given only to new (and unused) products and clothingbecause of an ever-increasing number of people in needwho lost absolutely everything as a result of the earthquake, in humanitarian aid points also began to accept used, but clean – clothes and shoes.
Volunteers in Izmir are on duty day and night in two offices located in the central areas of the city and collect (and sort) humanitarian cargo, which is then put into trucks and sent to where things and food are most needed at one time or another.

Azra Chapak, volunteer to help sort clothes, said: “We are addressed with dirty bathrobes and socks, sandals, high-heeled shoes, false eyelashes. Of course we throw it all away. Sometimes, opening another “package”, an unpleasant smell spreads around the office. There are people who send dirty and torn things. Why are they doing that?! It’s just idiotic!”
