The US Congress, following the Senate, approved the Respect for Marriage Act, recognizing same-sex marriage at the federal level.
As tells BB.LV, The Respect for Marriage Act guarantees the right to same-sex and interracial marriage at the federal level. The initiators of its adoption were the Democrats, wanting to prevent the possible abolition of the right to same-sex marriage by conservative judges of the Supreme Court.
The new landmark law “On Respect for Marriage” was approved in a vote of 258 congressmen – all Democrats and 39 Republicans. 169 Republicans voted against.
Now the law is sent for signature to US President Joe Biden – he has already spoken out in his support and promised to sign it immediately.
