Ministry of Finance: 2022 will be a record year for FDI in Greece and exports

2022 will be one of the historical records for both foreign direct investment in Greece and exports,” Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Tuesday.

He spoke at the Naftemporiki conference on the topic “Greek Economy and Entrepreneurship: Challenges and Opportunities in an Unpredictable Future”. Referring to the performance of the Greek economy, the minister said: this proves that entrepreneurship and the state, working together, have been able to contain the unprecedented challenges to a satisfactory extent. “The country has faced challenges and opportunities in the past, it faces them today, and will face challenges and opportunities in the future. The question is how entrepreneurship and the economic system work together to seize opportunities and contain challenges as much as possible,” said Staikouras, among other things.

He added: “We have had opportunities in the past with a favorable European environment, but then, for four years, we had about zero economic growth.” Staikouras noted: “The key issue in the implementation of economic policy is the country’s achievement of high rates of economic growth. We did better than the European average.”

Citing European Commission forecasts, he said that “according to the European Commission, this year Greece will have twice the economic growth rate of the European average, and next year, which is more difficult for Europe, Greece will have three times higher rates of economic growth. That is, every year everything is better and better than the European average. It’s an element of collective success.”

PS It looks like the New Democracy government has started an election campaign. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain such optimistic, if not fabulous, reports against the backdrop of unprecedented inflation and falling living standards.
