U.S. Embassy stops issuing visas to Russians from May 12

The United States Embassy in Russia will no longer issue visas to Russians for non-diplomatic travel. Changes in the list of services of the diplomatic mission will come into force on May 12, the press service of the US Embassy reported today, April 30.

The decision was made in connection with the ban of the Russian authorities from hiring the citizens of the Russian Federation to the embassy. The message says:

“Starting May 12, the US Embassy in Moscow will reduce the number of consular services on offer to include only emergency services for US citizens and a very limited number of immigrant visas for immigrants, immigrants by age and life or death. These service cuts are required due to government notification. Russia on April 23 on its intention to prohibit the US Mission to Russia from hiring foreign citizens in any capacity. Processing of nonimmigrant visas for non-diplomatic travel will be discontinued. “

American citizens are advised to leave Russia if their Russian visas are about to expire, by June 15th.
