Off the coast of France, a passenger on a cruise ship fell overboard and died.
How tells BB.LV, a tragic incident occurred on Saturday, October 12, on the MSC Virtuosa liner, which was located near the Channel Islands. The French coast guard, having received a distress signal from the 18-deck liner, involved a French Navy H160 helicopter, a Channel Islands aircraft and two rescue boats in the rescue operation.
According to The Telegraph, the helicopter crew spotted the woman and lifted her from the sea. The passenger was taken to a rescue center in Normandy, France, where a medical team pronounced the woman dead. It remains unknown under what circumstances she fell and what country she was a citizen of. French police began an investigation, and the plane continued its journey to England.
The Maltese-flagged cruise ship MSC Virtuosa is capable of carrying more than 6,000 passengers and 1,700 crew members. It is used for cruises to countries such as Belgium, Ireland, France, Portugal and the British Virgin Islands.
