Minimum wage: increase and adjustment

From April 2025, the minimum wage in the private sector will be set at approximately €870 gross. It is expected to increase gradually until the end of 2027.

According to the newspaper Kathimerini, the government has committed to setting a minimum wage of 950 euros gross by the end of 2027, based on the finance staff's projections in the draft budget and on the committee's final proposal submitted to the competent minister.

Labor Minister Niki Kerameos forecasts a minimum wage increase of at least €40 for private sector workers and a minimum of €20 for civil servants.

From January 1, the scientific committee led by Professor Patrina Paparigopoulou proposes to maintain the current wage relationship between the private and public sectors. However, at the same time, an automatic adjustment established by law regarding the minimum wage and daily wage is introduced based on a coefficient that will be the sum of two indicators:

  • The annual percentage change in the consumer price index from July 1 of the previous year to June 30 of the current year for the bottom 20% of the household income distribution.
  • Half the annual rate of change in the purchasing power of the general wage index over the same period of time.

Minimum Wage Commission proposes a gradual transition to a new minimum wage system. Until 2027, the current system will be applied, but with the addition of criteria taken into account when determining the legally established minimum wage and the minimum daily rate. In particular, criteria such as the purchasing power of minimum wages and their sufficiency will be added, taking into account the cost of living, the general level of wages, their distribution and the rate of change.
