Failures in access to Gmail are more often reported by residents of the Russian capital and St. Petersburg, although complaints about the problem are received from all Russian regions, but when the IP address is changed from Russian to foreign, the application starts working.
However, when returning the Russian IP address, the problem returns. “Thus, for now, the only way to bring the proprietary Gmail utility for iOS back to life is to make it think that the smartphone, like its owner, is not in Russia,” notes CNews.
How tells The Moscow Times, citing data from Sboy.rf, users of Apple smartphones and tablets lost access to the Gmail application for iOS.
So far, Apple, which owns the iOS platform, and Google, which owns the Gmail service, have not commented on the situation. There were no explanations from the Russian authorities either.
The publication notes that Gmail in the Russian Federation faces targeted blocking or restrictions at the infrastructure level of Russian providers or Roskomnadzor. Most likely, similar measures will apply to other Google services, and this could seriously affect the digital ecosystem in the country.
Let us remind you, if anyone missed this news: confirming a new Google account using a Russian mobile number is now impossible.
