New research Greenpeacepublished on Thursday 3/10, about the situation in primary sector Greece, where the ruin 31% small farms is indicative.

As the study notes, the situation for small farms is even worse, as their number has decreased by 37%, and they nevertheless remain the “backbone” of Greek agriculture, representing about 88% of farms in 2021.

From 2007 to 2021, average net profit per farm fell by 13%, and small farms earned on average 29% less than in 2007, Greenpeace said in a statement.

In Europe as a whole, as it turned out, since 2007 almost two million “commercial farms”, resulting in the loss of 3.8 million jobs. One reason for this is the desire to create larger industrial farms and increase economic profits. This results in small farms closing and economic power in agriculture remaining concentrated in the hands of a few farms.
