According to the EODY epidemiological report for the period from September 16 to 22, the number of positive coronavirus tests among the Greek population increased slightly compared to the previous week.

Last week there were 14 coronavirus-related deaths, 509 hospitalizations and 7 new intubations. The number of new hospitalizations was 509. The average weekly number of new hospitalizations over the previous four weeks was 669.

The number of new intubations was 7, three fewer than the average number for the previous four weeks (11). The number of patients with COVID-19 infection hospitalized during intubation was 25.

Since late spring, the dominant strain has been “BA.2.86,” which contains at least one of the “F456L” and “R346T” mutations. However this the class of variant strains is not associated with an increased risk of severe disease.

Monitoring of viral load in municipal wastewater showed that the level is trending upward much lower than during last summer's wave.

These weeks' data showed an increase in the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in six of the ten regions tested, stabilization in three and a decrease in one.

Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and people with underlying health conditions, are advised to follow respiratory infection prevention measures and seek medical attention when symptoms first appear.

To the rest of the population when symptoms appear treatment should be started and limit contact with people from vulnerable groups.
